According to a Jan. 6, 2012 article in the Daily News & Analysis (DNA), Bangalore’s (India)Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) is likely to open a ‘nano-lab’ for children. From the article,

“We set up a similar nano-lab in Kolkata on an experimental basis,” he said. With this initiative, VITM will introduce nanoscience and nanotechnology concepts to schoolchildren and college students. [said VITM director Dr Shivaprasad Khened]

Not everyone is in favour of this initiative. C. N. R. Rao, scientist and prime minister’s science advisory council chair, had this to say (from the article),

“I don’t know anything about the project and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. I hope they bring in people who are well-versed with nanoscience,” he said.

According to Khened, children will dress up in lab coats and use microscopes (if I understand the article correctly at least some of the microscopes will be atomic force microscopes [AFM] commonly used in nanotechnology/nanoscience labs) as part of their ‘science’ experience.
