I don’t usually publicize Café Scientifique meetings that take place anywhere other than in Vancouver, Canada but this particular meeting gives me an opportunity to provide a followup of sorts to my Dec. 20, 2011 posting about the Philippines’ The Mind Museum. As for why I have a special interest in the museum, here’s an excerpt from that Dec. 2011 posting,

Christina Chaey’s Nov. 21, 2011 news bit about the museum for Fast Company notes a number of architectural features including one grass roof and another roof designed to prevent wind tunneling by directing gusts upward.

The December 2011 opening for the Mind Museum seems to have been a successful soft launch but I haven’t heard more about the museum until now. From the July 9, 2013 news item on Rappler.com,

Café Scientifique presents Passport to Nanoworld on July 13 (Saturday), 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Canopy Plaza of The Mind Museum at J.Y. Campos Park, 3rd Avenue, Bonifacio Global City.

Nanotechnology relies on individually manipulating atoms and molecules. Atoms and molecules are so small, they are the size of nanometers (a nanometer is a billionth of a meter). That is a million times smaller than the average length of an ant! At this level, scientists and engineers are able to manipulate their properties for different applications such as in medicine, energy storage and electronic devices to name a few. However, like any technology, there are risks that come with these benefits.

With the help of Dr Zoraida Aguilar, this session of Café Scientifique aims to engage young minds in a conversation about the basics of nanotechnology and to increase public awareness regarding its impacts, benefits and risks.

Café Scientifique is a world-wide movement to bring science closer to the public through conversations. This is The Mind Museum’s 11th since 2008. [emphasis mine]

I don’t know how to account for that 2008 reference. Perhaps the 2011 opening was for a new building for a pre-existing Mind Museum or perhaps the organizers developed a series of talks and events leading up to a brand new museum?
